Further east, a cluster of claims including the Jewel Mine, Good Luck Mine, and the Maule Mining Co suggests a period of active mineral exploration near the Frazier Mountain Game Refuge.

The landscape also serves as a mid-century hub for recreation and public works, featuring the Camp Trefoil Boy Scout Camp and the San Emigdio Girl Scout Camp along the northern canyons.
