Lapwai Valley dominates the southern portion of this landscape, where the settlement of Culdesac sits at the junction of several canyon roads. The terrain here is defined by a series of deep drainages feeding into larger watercourses, including the Clearwater River which clips the northwestern corner near the small community of Myrtle. Between these points, the topography is carved by numerous forks of Tom Beall Creek and the steep Kettenbach Grade.
