About this map

The White Cliffs and high plateau benches of Kane County dominate this section of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. The landscape is a vertical succession of geologic features, from the elevated Skutumpah Terrace in the north down to the Wygaret Terrace in the south. Between these levels, a series of canyons and flats, such as John R Canyon and John R Flat, suggest the long-standing use of the land for grazing and movement through the breaks. Transport is restricted to the valley floors and established routes like Johnson Canyon Rd and the Wygaret Ter trail. Named high points like Lone Pine Point and Cutler Point serve as essential landmarks across this deeply dissected terrain, while Johnson Wash provides the primary drainage for the network of canyons that feed into the main Johnson Canyon corridor.
