Cypress and its surrounding prairie land are documented here at a moment of transition as the Houston urban area begins to reach outward. The Southern Pacific railroad corridor anchors the primary settlement, while the landscape is defined by the drainage network of Little Cypress Creek, Horsepen Creek, and Langham Creek feeding toward the Addicks Reservoir in the southeast corner. Local community life is visible in the distribution of family landmarks and institutions, including the Graves, Roeder, Muller, and Knigge cemeteries, alongside the Cy-Fair High Sch and Arnold Jr High Sch. A specialized economy is suggested by the presence of Hot Wells, an airport at Weiser, and a local Rodeo Ground. The map uses purple tinting to highlight the expansion of the Houston Corp Boundaries and newer residential developments that were emerging in the late 1970s.
