Dalton serves as the central hub of this 1970s landscape, positioned at a critical junction of the Burlington Northern railroad. The surrounding terrain is a complex mosaic of glacial water bodies, with the Pomme de Terre River winding through the center and larger basins like Tenmile Lake and Swan Lake defining the southern and western margins. These waters were significant enough for the Minnesota Department of Conservation to provide detailed hydrographic data for the survey.
