The Saint Croix River forms a jagged natural boundary between Pine County, Minnesota, and Burnett County, Wisconsin, anchoring this landscape of water and forest. To the north, the small settlement of Markville sits near the Markville Cem, where local roads like N Markville Rd and S Markville Rd branch out through the timberlands. Much of the river corridor is protected as part of the Saint Croix National Scenic Riverway and the St. Croix Wild and Scenic River, preserving the riparian environment where Trout Brook and Crystal Cr join the main flow.

In the southern portion of the quadrangle, the community of Danbury is situated near the confluence of the Loon Creek and the Yellow River. This area is characterized by a high density of water bodies, including Bass Lake, Tabor Lake, and Stone Lake, which are interconnected by a network of local routes such as E Bass Lake Rd and Lake 26 Rd. The geography reflects a transition from the structured township grids of t42n r16w to the more organic, lake-dotted terrain of northwestern Wisconsin.
