Buffalo Lake sits at the center of this high plains landscape, marking a significant hydrological feature in a region defined by its rugged escarpments and drainage patterns. The boundary between Quay and Curry Counties bisects the terrain, separating the northern tablelands from the southern flats. Significant relief is found along the northern half of the sheet, where several prominent elevations such as Round Mtn, Park Hill, and Rusk Hill overlook a network of deep incisions including Dripping Spring Canyon and Day Canyon. This area illustrates the transition from the flatter agricultural lands to the more complex topography of the Llano Estacado's edge. A rigid grid of section-line roads, such as Quay Road 51 and Curry Road 44, provides access through the expansive ranching and farming tracts that dominate both counties.
