Saint Regis River defines the northern corridor of this Montana-Idaho borderland, where the Bitterroot Range rises sharply above a series of small mountain settlements. Historical infrastructure follows the river valley, connecting De Borgia and Henderson with the De Borgia Cem and the small outpost of Cabin City. The landscape is dominated by the vast protected acreage of the Lolo National Forest and St Joe National Forest, where high summits like Up Up Mtn, Moon Peak, and Newman Peak overlook a network of drainages including Ward Creek and Canyon Creek. To the south, the terrain becomes increasingly complex as it crosses into Idaho, marked by alpine features such as Lenora Lake, Hazel Lake, and the remote Bed Springs. This survey documents a region where transportation and settlement are dictated by the steep topography of the western Rockies.
