USGS Topo · Published 1943

About this map

Anacortes and the surrounding islands of northern Whidbey and southern Fidalgo are captured in this 1940 survey, published at the height of World War II. The landscape is defined by the narrow opening of Deception Pass and the surrounding Deception Pass State Park, showing the area before the post-war population boom. The Swinomish Indian Reservation occupies the eastern edge of Fidalgo Island, separated from La Conner by a narrow channel.
