The Grande Ronde River cuts through the northern reaches of this Union and Wallowa County borderland, defining a landscape dominated by the protected timberlands of the Umatilla National Forest and Wallowa National Forest. This 2017 survey shows a region largely defined by its natural topography and resource management infrastructure, with a network of Forest Service development roads such as Nat For Dev Rd 341 and Nat For Dev Rd 340 providing access to high-elevation clearings. Several named openings, including Newman Meadows, Brown Meadows, and Grove Meadow, signify essential landmarks in the densely wooded terrain. The drainage systems are clearly delineated, tracing the paths of Deep Creek, Grossman Cr, and Clear Cr as they feed into the larger river basin near Indian Point and Ferguson Spring.
