About this map

The Grande Ronde River carves a deep path through the northwestern corner of this territory, marking a significant geographic boundary as it flows through the Umatilla National Forest. Much of the landscape is defined by the high, wooded terrain that transitions into the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest, creating a complex of national forest lands where Wallowa and Union Counties meet. This 1990s revision reflects a remote, largely undeveloped wilderness characterized by seasonal water sources and grazing lands. Natural openings such as Newman Meadows and Brown Meadows break the dense forest cover, while several tributaries, including Deep Creek and Grossman Creek, drain the high plateaus. Small-scale resource activity is noted at a Gravel Pit near the river, and water reliability is tracked through named points like Ferguson Spring.
