Deep River and the neighboring community of Dresden center this study of eastern Poweshiek County, where the landscape is defined by the convergence of several significant waterways. The Deep River flows through the northern sections, while the Middle English River and North English River carve through the central and eastern portions of the quadrangle. This drainage network, including Jordan Cr and Gritter Cr, creates a varied topography that dictates the placement of the rural road grid and settlement patterns.
