The White River meanders in dramatic oxbows through this eastern Arkansas landscape, defining the character of the riverfront town of Des Arc. As the seat of Prairie County, the town center is anchored by the Prairie County Courthouse and a grid of streets including Claiborne St and Marion St. The surrounding bottomlands are heavily influenced by the shifting river channel, evidenced by numerous cut-off lakes and sloughs such as Old River Lake, Round Lake, and Eddy Lake.
