The Colorado River carves through this high desert region of Grand County, defining a series of alluvial flats and dramatic geological formations. Along its course, named bottomlands such as Ninemile Bottom, Hittle Bottom, and Hotel Bottom served as vital level ground for local activity. The landmark Dewey Bridge provides a historic crossing point where the river meets the Dolores River confluence, south of the Cisco Wash.
