2021 Map of Dome

USGS Topo · Published 2021

About this map

The settlement of Dome sits at the southern edge of this desert landscape, positioned near the Gila River and the historical corridor of the E Butterfield Stage Rd. This arid region is defined by complex topography, where the Gila Mountains and Muggins Mountains rise above a network of seasonal drainages including Castle Dome Wash and Vinegarroon Wash. The mapping reveals a transition from the alluvial flats of the Castle Dome Plain into the high, broken terrain of Muggins Mesa and the prominent Klothos Temple. To the north, Castle Dome Mine Rd provides a vital link into the mining districts beyond the quadrangle boundary. The road network, including the S Gila Levee Rd, follows the river's path, illustrating the historical reliance on this water source in an otherwise parched environment.
