About this map

Point Reyes National Seashore is documented here during a period of transition in the mid-20th century, including photorevised updates from 1971. The map illustrates a high concentration of coastal freshwater lakes and topographical landmarks along the Pacific edge, such as Wildcat Lake, Ocean Lake, and the notable Alamere Falls. To the north, the terrain rises toward Firtop and is dissected by the Bear Valley Creek drainage system. A network of primitive routes, including the Sky Trail and Coast Trail, provides access to the interior highlands and the Glen Campground. The presence of the Lake Ranch near the southeastern boundary suggests the persistence of earlier land-use patterns within the federal preserve, while the prominent headlands of Double Point and Abalone Point define the shore's geology.
