Iowa River headwaters wind through this Wright County landscape, defining the agricultural character of north-central Iowa. The small settlements of Rowan, Galt, and the western edge of Dows anchor a grid of rural roads and drainage infrastructure. This 2018 survey reveals a highly managed hydrologic system, where several numbered watercourses, such as Ditch Number 213, Ditch Number 5, and Ditch Number 187, have been engineered to support the surrounding farmland.
