Spring Grove township anchors the northern portion of this prairie landscape, where the Mc Henry Co Sheridan Co line divides the rolling pothole terrain of central North Dakota. In the late 1950s, this area remained a rural community defined by local institutions such as Rosenfield Ch, Rosenfield Cem, and Rosenfield School No 2. To the south, St Paul Ch serves as another focal point for the scattered farmsteads of the region.

Water dominates the topography, with Kandt Lake, Ebel Lake, and Krueger Lake filling the depressions between low ridges. The transport of agricultural goods is facilitated by the M S T P & S S M railroad, which clips the northwestern corner of the sheet. The prevalence of small sloughs and depressions alongside named bodies of water illustrates the glacial heritage of the Missouri River Basin development area.
