Silver Lake dominates the northeast corner of this high-desert landscape in northern Lake County. The terrain is defined by a sophisticated network of water management features essential for ranching and forestry in the arid Oregon interior, including numerous named stock tanks such as O'Keefe Waterhole, Dudley Waterhole, and Dry Cr Waterhole. The southern portion of the map is heavily timbered, transitioning into the protected lands of the Fremont National Forest. Movement across this section of the Great Basin is marked by the long-distance Southern Oregon Intertie Trail, which skirts the drainage of Murdock Cr and Duncan Cr. The presence of the Winkle Flat Reservoir and Cottonwood Spring Reservoir reflects the ongoing importance of seasonal water storage for local agriculture and livestock.
