Winter Ridge dominates the western half of this mid-1960s landscape, dropping sharply from the high timber of the Fremont National Forest toward the alkaline basin of Summer Lake. Historical land use is evidenced by the Old Indian Treaty Boundary cutting across the forested slopes, while the settlement at Summer Lake clusters near the Ana River. Numerous water sources, including Bagley Spring and several Flowing Wells, highlight the importance of water management in this arid corridor where the mountains meet the lake basin.
