Thunder Basin National Grassland dominates this portion of Weston County, where a high-plains landscape is defined by its seasonal drainage systems. The terrain is deeply carved by numerous ephemeral watercourses and draws that direct the flow of the land towards the larger creek systems. These include the prominent S Fork Lone Tree Cr and Louse Cr in the northern reaches, while Dupont Cr winds through the central area.
