Lafitte lies near the southeast corner of this Colorado County landscape, where the coastal prairie meets a complex system of waterways. The San Bernard River forms a natural eastern boundary, fed by several significant tributaries including Coushatta Creek, Church Creek, and Willow Creek. Water management and drainage are central to the area's development, evidenced by structures such as Plowden Lake Dam and Refuge Lake Dam. This 2010 survey illustrates a rural region defined by an extensive grid of country roads, including Bernardo Rd and Cat Spring Rd, which connect various agricultural properties and private landing strips like the Renz Ranch Airport and the uniquely named Marios Flying Pizza Airport. Much of the southern portion is dominated by the meandering course of Middle Bernard Creek, reflecting a topography deeply influenced by its proximity to the Texas Gulf Coast drainage basins.
