Mark Twain National Forest dominates much of this mid-century Ozark landscape, where the borders of Phelps, Dent, and Texas counties converge. The rugged topography is defined by the Spring Creek and Little Piney Creek drainages, carved by numerous named hollows such as Ledbetter Hollow and Whitten Hollow. High ground is occupied by narrow ridges like Chambers Ridge and Tie Ridge, which served as the primary routes for early roads and settlement.
