Mae serves as the primary named settlement in this lake-rich region of northern Minnesota, situated at the intersection of Pine Inn Rd NE and Morrison Lake Rd NE. The landscape is dominated by a complex network of glacial water bodies and wetlands, ranging from the namesake Edna Lake on the eastern boundary to the centrally located Little Pine Lake. The northern reaches are drained by the Moose River, while the southern portion features the meandering path of the Little Pine River as it flows toward Caraway Lake.
