About this map

Elberton sits along the winding course of the Palouse River in this survey of Whitman County. The landscape is characterized by its agricultural draws and river bends, including the broad Turnbow Flat to the southeast. To the south, Eden Valley provides a secondary focal point for settlement, centered around the Eden Valley Cem. These communities are connected by a network of rural routes named for local figures, such as Omar Brown Rd, Oral Smith Rd, and Draper Rd. Further north, Silver Springs and Silver Cr mark the drainage patterns that feed into the larger river system. The presence of Walker Airport and the Garfield Cem on the northern periphery further defines the region's land use, illustrating a sparsely populated but established rural geography where family names are etched into the very roads and landmarks of the Palouse.
