The high, forested terrain is dissected by numerous waterways, most notably the West Branch Fishing Creek, which flows past the small community of Elk Grove. Evidence of the area's industrial past is seen in the Old Railroad Grade winding through the northwest corner near Long Brook.

Settlement patterns follow the narrow valleys and upland plateaus, marked by rural landmarks such as Cherry Grove Ch and Brandon Ch. In the southern reaches of Jackson and Pine, smaller hamlets like Divide and Richarts Grove appear alongside agricultural clearings. A notable cultural feature is the Covered Bridge crossing the creek south of Grassmere Park, a remnant of traditional infrastructure in this heavily wooded portion of the State Game Lands No 13.
