Ellensburg sits at the northern edge of this study, serving as a gateway to the fertile Kittitas Valley. The landscape is defined by the complex hydrography of the Yakima River and its tributaries, including Wilson Creek and Manastash Cr. The southern expansion of the city is evident at the South Ellensburg Interchange, where modern infrastructure meets the historical agricultural grid. To the south and west, the terrain rises sharply into the ridgelines, carved by numerous drainages such as Stone Quarry Canyon, Long Tom Canyon, and Shushuskin Canyon. Irrigation remains a vital element of the local geography, represented by the Clinesmith Irrigation Ditch and the Tjossem Ditch, which support the farms surrounding the small settlements of Holmes and Thrall.
