About this map

The Shenipsit State Forest dominates the high ground of this Tolland County landscape, where the wooded ridges of Soapstone Mtn and Bald Mtn overlook the industrial and agricultural valleys below. In the early 1950s, the villages of Somersville, Somers, and Ellington maintain their distinct characters, connected by a network of rural roads such as Frog Hollow Road and Cider Mill Rd. The New York New Haven and Hartford railroad tracks cut across the northwestern corner, serving the mills near the Scantic River and Mill Pond.
