Sun Valley Lake dominates the northern landscape of this Ringgold County quadrangle, its intricate shoreline defined by residential developments and local roads like ChoctAW Rd and Tomahawk Trl. This area of southern Iowa is characterized by its rural settlement patterns and historic travel corridors, notably featuring Mormon Trl and Stagecoach Rd north of the lake. The small incorporated communities of Ellston and Beaconsfield anchor the western and central sections respectively, connected by a network of gravel and dirt routes such as Co Hwy-P64 and Dirt Rd. The terrain is drained by several meandering waterways, including Elk Cr, Lotts Cr, and Sand Cr, which cut through the agricultural fields that make up the vast majority of the township acreage beyond the lake's modern footprint.
