Calapooya Mountains and the high elevations of the Oregon Cascades dominate this landscape at the intersection of three major national forests. The 2014 survey marks a complex hydrographic network where the Middle Fork Willamette River originates among numerous alpine basins, including Marie Lake and Summit Lake. The rugged crest is defined by the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail, which threads through Emigrant Pass near the prominent Emigrant Butte.
