About this map

The ranchlands of Brooks County are defined by large-scale livestock operations and small family legacies in this recent survey. To the north, the terrain is marked by the Los Muertos Pasture and Remuda Pasture, while the southern portion of the map centers on the small settlements of Vallerreno and Rachal. These communities are connected by a network of county roads and state routes, including FM 755 and Huppergate Rd. Local history is grounded in the presence of the Vallerreno Cem and Longoria Cem, which reflect the long-standing genealogical roots of this South Texas region. Water is a scarce but vital feature, with Round Lake and Medio Lake providing the few named landmarks in a landscape primarily utilized for cattle and transit along the 281 corridor.
