The village of Equality serves as the primary hub in this southern Illinois landscape, situated at the confluence of the N Fork Saline River and the main Saline River. The terrain transitions from the river bottoms to the notable Wildcat Hills in the central portion of the map, characterized by numerous named hollows such as Poplar Hollow and Burnt Shanty Hollow. These geographical features provided natural landmarks for the early dispersed settlements of Kedron, Leamington, and Gibsonia.
