Ervay Basin and the surrounding high desert of Natrona County are defined by a complex network of seasonal drainages and remote upland ridges. The headwaters of the S Fork Powder River carve through the landscape near Hoff Gap, while the northern portion of the sheet is dominated by the prominence of Maverick Butte and the Coalbank Hills. This terrain is characteristic of the Wyoming interior, where water sources like Sulphur Spring and Collins Spring were historically vital for livestock and early travel.
