Esperanza sits along the international boundary between the United States and Mexico, where the irrigation and drainage infrastructure of the Rio Grande valley meets the arid West Texas desert. These channels contrast sharply with the natural, episodic watercourses like Madden Arroyo and Arroyo Macho that descend from the higher elevations to the north.
