The Buffalo National River snakes through the northern portion of this quadrangle, flanked by prominent bluffs like Clair Bluff and John Reddell Bluff. This Ozark landscape is defined by its deep hollows and high points, including Point Peter Mtn and Chinquapin Knob. While the terrain is steep, small settlements such as Bass, Woolum, and Eula are scattered along the creek bottoms and ridge benches. The distribution of family cemeteries, including Hamilton Cem, Nars Cem, and Dodson Cem, indicates a long history of small-scale settlement before much of the land was incorporated into the Ozark National Forest.
