Smokey Hollow Swamp and a dense network of watercourses define this portion of Alpena County, where the landscape is carved by the southern flow of Wolf Creek and its many tributaries. The area is characterized by a grid of rural roads, many bearing the names of local families, such as Hoeberling Rd, Wegmeyer Rd, and Bartz Rd. This 2019 survey documents the enduring spiritual and genealogical landmarks of the community, notably the Salem Lutheran Church Cem and the adjacent Saint Matthew Cem and Saint Paul Cem near the eastern boundary.
