Pierre Bayou meanders across the northern portion of this landscape, anchoring a complex system of waterways at the border of De Soto Parish and Natchitoches Parish. The terrain is defined by a dense network of swampy depressions and water bodies, including Dolet Brake, Louies Brake, and Sample Brake, which sit alongside numerous lakes like Teloque Lake and Chemard Lake. These features reflect the alluvial character of the Red River valley region, where bayous like Wallace Bayou and Rambin Bayou weave through low-lying ground.

Energy extraction is a visible driver of activity in the late 1980s, evidenced by a designated Gas Field and Oil Field situated between the small settlements of Evelyn and Rambin. While most of the area remains rural and wooded, the presence of these industrial zones and the scatter of farmsteads near Ajax and Harris illustrate the dual reliance on natural resources and traditional agriculture. The southern reaches are marked by more defined watercourses such as Jims River and the isolated Jims Island.
