Scientific and industrial infrastructure punctuates this subarctic landscape north of Fairbanks, where the Fairbanks No. 2 NASA Data Aquisition Facility and the Eielson Alaska Long Period Array Research Site represent significant Cold War-era research and telemetry installations. The terrain is defined by the high point of Gilmore Dome and the winding course of the Little Chena River, which flows through the southern portion of the sheet. Modern engineering is visible in the alignment of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline and the arterial Chena Hot Springs Road.
