Fallsville and the high ridges of the Ozark National Forest define this 2014 topographic study of Newton County. The terrain is deeply incised by the headwaters of major Arkansas drainages, including the Buffalo River flowing north and the Big Piney Creek system winding south. These drainage divides create a landscape of prominent points and hollows, such as Harvey Point and Waterfall Hollow, which have historically dictated the placement of mountain roads and small upland communities.
