The Ferguson Mtn high country dominates this corner of the Goshute Mountains in eastern Nevada, where survival in the 1970s was tied to a sparse network of springs and intermittent washes. Human activity is centered around water and resource extraction, evidenced by the Ferguson Sprs Maint Sta and a Picnic Area near Ferguson Springs. The landscape is etched with history of both ranching and mining, from the Felt Spring Corral in the north to the Dead Cedar Mine and various Prospects scattered across the slopes. Transportation is limited to rugged terrain routes, with numerous Jeep Trail tracks providing the only access to remote points like Dead Cedar Spring and Little Mud Spring. The map captures a moment in the Great Basin's land use before modern changes, documenting livestock facilities and early mining attempts that define the region's character.
