The High Plains of Eastern New Mexico are defined by a strict section-line grid in this recent 2020 survey of the border region between Quay and Curry Counties. The small community of Field serves as a central point in an agricultural landscape where water management is visible through the winding courses of Blanco Cr and Frio Draw. These ephemeral watercourses cut across the otherwise rectilinear road network, which is anchored by thoroughfares like Curry Road 28 and Co Rd 26. Local history is preserved at the Field Cem, while the Curtis and Curtis Airport represents more modern infrastructure in this sparsely populated ranching and farming area. The map illustrates the persistence of early township and range boundaries, including t6n r31e and t5n r32e, which continue to dictate the placement of rural residences and boundary lines today.
