Dixie National Forest covers the high-altitude terrain of Iron County, where the Colorado Plateau meets the Great Basin. This landscape is defined by its dramatic verticality, as seen in the steep descent from Summit Mtn and Sugarloaf Mtn toward the drainage basins below. The geological complexity of the area is highlighted by the presence of Flanigan Arch, located near Arch Canyon in the southern portion of the quadrangle.
