Flora stands at the center of this Benson County landscape, where the prairie grid of the Public Land Survey System meets the natural winding course of the Sheyenne River. The river carves through the southern portion of the quadrangle, joined by the distinct landform of Peterson Coulee to the east. This 2018 survey reveals a community deeply rooted in its local geography, evidenced by the presence of two burial grounds: Flora Cem near the townsite and Greenwood Cem / Maddock Cem further north. The region's agricultural and aviation history is reflected in private airfield labels such as the Sabbe Brothers Landing Strip and Gilbertson Field. A dense network of local roads, including 54th Ave NE and 37th St NE, provides a framework for the rural homesteads and sections that define this part of North Dakota.
