The settlement of Floweree and the southern village of Portage anchor this landscape along the border of Chouteau and Cascade counties. Set against the northern high plains, the area is defined by the deep incisions of drainage coulees that drop toward the Missouri River, which appears in the southeastern corner. Significant terrain features include the winding paths of Ryan Coulee, Huntley Coulee, and Widow Coulee, which contrast with the flat, surveyed agricultural blocks of the surrounding townships. Locally named roads such as Floweree Rd and Gruel Rd trace the paths between these geographic breaks.
