Mt Baker National Forest contains some of the most dramatic glaciated terrain in the North Cascades, as documented during this early 1960s field check. The landscape is dominated by massive ice sheets, including the Klawatti Glacier, Inspiration Glacier, and the sprawling Boston Glacier which clings to the slopes below Forbidden Peak. The presence of the Skagit Queen Mine near Skagit Queen Creek points to the area's prospecting history, even as the high alpine basins like Boston Basin remained accessible only to the most determined travelers.
