The confluence of the White River and Black River forms the geographic heart of this rugged portion of Gila County. Captured in 2021, the landscape is defined by the dramatic descent into the Salt River Canyon and the surrounding high ground of Sevenmile Rim and Forks Butte. These deep drainages and uplifted plateaus are connected by primitive forest roads like RD 1400 and R-9, tracing paths through a region where water sources are the primary landmarks.
