The Warm Springs Indian Reservation and Mt Hood National Forest meet in this high-elevation landscape, where historical boundary lines including the (Mc Quinn Line 1887) and the (Campbell Line 1971) trace the complex management history of Oregon’s central mountains. Dominating the topography is the prominent Fort Butte, surrounded by a web of seasonal drainages and meadows such as Camas Prairie and Lemiti Meadow.

Transit through the area is marked by the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail and a network of 4WD tracks that follow the ridges above the Warm Springs River and its southern fork. To the south, geological features such as Lava flows and a Cinder Pit near Badger Creek indicate the volcanic character of the region. This 1980s-era survey documents the intersection of Wasco, Clackamas, and Marion counties within a landscape of critical watershed and timber resources.
