Fremont serves as the focal point of this Newaygo County landscape, situated just north of the expansive Fremont Lake. The town's grid of residential and commercial streets, including W Main St and E Main St, transitions into a surrounding countryside defined by a complex network of glacial lakes and agricultural drainages. To the east, the Newaygo County Poor Farm Cem and Maple Grove Cem offer points of interest for genealogical research, while the small settlement of Bishop appears to the southeast near Savage Lake. The terrain is shaped by numerous water bodies like Peck Lake, Somers Lake, and the Grandpa Lakes, eventually giving way to the Muskegon River valley in the far southeast corner. This 2019 survey documents the modern layout of the Fremont Municipal Airport and the intricate water management systems of the Dunning Drain and Siems Drain.
