Walkerville and the village of Hesperia anchor this mid-century survey of the West Michigan landscape, where the border between Oceana and Newaygo counties meets the wooded expanse of the Manistee National Forest. The map reveals a highly localized network of rural institutions, from the St Josephs Ch in Elbridge to the numerous country schools like Gale Sch and North Ferry Sch that served the farming community. Dozens of small glacial lakes, including Cobmoosa Lake and Little Campbell Lake, are interspersed among rolling terrain marked by timber and agriculture.
