The Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument anchors this 2023 map of the rugged backcountry where the forks of the Gila River converge. This area of the Gila National Forest and Gila Wilderness is defined by a complex network of canyons and high mesas, including North Mesa and Alum Mtn. The small settlement of Gila Hot Springs serves as the primary hub for the region, located near the junction of the West Fork Gila River and the main stem of the Gila River.
